Anantnag, March 10: The Department of Ayush hosted a one-day seminar on the promotion of Medicinal plants as an alternative source of employment in J&K.
According to an official, the seminar was organized by the District Ayush Office Anantnag, on the directions of the Directorate of Ayush and the J&K Medicinal Plants Board, at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dooru Anantnag.
He said that farmers and allied departments were roped in to ensure the effectiveness of the program and reach out to more farmers and others to promote the Medicinal plants in the area.
“The program was attended by Farmers from all over the district Anantnag who were invited as participants and listened to the visiting Officer keenly to adopt the new emerging trend of establishing the units of Medicinal plants,” he said.
Dr. Ali Mohammad Reshi District Ayush Officer (DAO) Anantnag briefed the farmers and other participants and gave a brief outline of Ayush Department’s aim in promoting the plants for the larger good of the society.
Aijaz Hussain Dar, Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) Anantnag said that Lavender Nursery has been established at Sirhama Anantnag and Germ plasm centre of Herbal medicines has been established also.
“Although the Germ plasm centre is in its infancy stage yet it is expected that the saplings of various herbal plants will be available at year end or next spring,” he said.
Meanwhile, DFO Social Forestry assured the full cooperation of Forest Department in establishing Herbal gardens in the District.
Ab Rehman Ganie, a notable farmer, was felicitated as Progressive farmer.
“The farmer has established Herbal gardens on his own land and has been awarded at UT as well as National level,” an official said.
He said that Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Social Forestry Anantnag/Kulgam Gazala Abdullah was invited as Chief Guest of the program; Chief Agriculture Officer Anantnag Aijaz Hussain Dar was invited as Guest of Honour; Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad Khan Head KVK Dooru Anantnag was invited as a Resource person.
