Baramulla, June 21: The National Horticulture Board ( NHB) Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare, Government of India, Jammu and Srinagar (J&K) in collaboration with ICAR-CITH, KVK, Baramulla organized a “One-day Training cum Awareness Programme on NHB Schemes.” at Municipal Committee, Town Hall, Kunzer of Baramulla district. More than 100 progressive farmers, farm women, horticulture entrepreneurs and government officials from various departments of the district participated.
Dr. M.K Verma, Director, ICAR- Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture, Srinagar, was Chief Guest at this occasion. The chief guest expressed the need to adopt NHB Schemes and modern scientific technologies to improve the quality of the horticultural produces to get remunerative prices in the market. He urged the participants to adopt of improved post-harvest management practices for higher income and stressed developing market linkages of various agricultural produce and their value-added products for better profitability.
Sansar Ahmed, Deputy Director, National Horticulture Board, Jammu and Kashmir in his address apprised the farmers regarding the objective of conducting this training cum awareness programme, he also explained various schemes started by the National Horticulture Board for the benefit of the farmer and subsidy component under these schemes.
Earlier, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal Scientist and Head, KVK, Baramulla welcomed the dignitaries and participants and spoke about the importance of convergence between KVK and NHB for the welfare of the farming community.
The CITH scientist Dr. Washim Hasan Raja, delivered lecture on the establishment of Hi-Tech Nursery, Puneet Kumar and Sharath Kumar N, scientists from CITH also delivered a lecture on post-harvest management and practical demonstration on the preparation of value-added horticultural products. Rajendra Kumar, Chief Horticulture Officer Baramulla, Yadvedendra Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Baramulla, and Tehsildar Kunzer were also explained various schemes of farmers’ welfare.
Bilal Lone, Area Marketing Officer, Baramulla/ Sopore Sh. Akhtar Wani, CEO, FPO Baramulla, other officers from the Department of Horticulture, Department of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture Planning & Marketing, JKHPMC, Horticulture Grower Associations, Progressive Horticulture Growers and Nurserymen interacted with participants and other stakeholders on effective implementation of NHB schemes in the Baramulla district. The programme was ended with a vote of thanks by Sansar Ahmad Deputy Director, NHB.
