Anantnag, Jan 25: In the aftermath of a tempo accident in Daksum – an off-beat destination in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district – the injured tourists are currently receiving treatment, and the tehsil administration in Larnoo has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of visitors.
Dr Anjum Farhana, Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, said the injured tourists, including Vikram Kumar Naik, Basant Rath, Biplab Kumar and Sujeet Kumar (referred to SKIMS Soura), are being treated at GMC Anantnag.
Following the incident, Syed Muiz Qadri, Tehsildar Larnoo, issued a safety advisory for the general public and tourists intending to visit Sinthan Top. He said the advisory aims to enhance safety measures in the area.
As per the advisory, traffic from Daksum check post to Sinthan Top is permitted only from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, contingent on fair weather conditions. “These timings are subject to change based on weather conditions, and updates can be obtained from the Tehsildar Larnoo’s office,” Qadri said.
“Travel in large buses or any large vehicle shall be strictly avoided due to the hilly terrain. It is preferable to travel in taxis or private vehicles such as family cars, which are more suitable for such terrain,” he said.
He urged the travellers to plan their return journey from Sinthan Top to the Daksum check-post by or before 4:30 pm. Late-hour travel may pose risks due to the accumulation of frost on the road, making driving hazardous, he said.
A tourist died while four others were injured as a vehicle carrying them from Odisha met with an accident in Daksum on Wednesday. The incident occurred when a tempo carrying 15 tourists overturned near the offbeat destination.
