Renowned actor and director Mushtaq Kak was mourned today in Srinagar, where the artistic community gathered to pay tribute to his untimely demise. The condolence meeting saw heartfelt expressions of grief from artists, directors, producers, and writers who were shocked by the loss.
Mushtaq Kak, the former artistic director of Shri Ram Centre, New Delhi, left an enduring legacy in the realms of theater and cinema. Awarded the Best Director for productions like “Andha Yug,” “Malika,” and “Pratibimb,” he showcased exceptional talent. His plays, “Maha Brahmin” and “Alladad,” were acclaimed as the best plays in 1999 and 2000, respectively.
Directing over 100 plays, Kak’s repertoire included adaptations of Saadat Hasan Manto’s short stories, Chekhov’s “Cheery ka Bagicha,” Tendulkar’s “Ghansi Ram Kotwal,” and other iconic works.
Beyond the stage, Mushtaq Kak made notable appearances in Hindi and Hollywood films, leaving his mark in productions such as “Hijack,” “Sikandar,” “Amal,” “Shikara,” “Vishwaroopam,” “Romeo Akbar Walter,” “Kesari,” “The Family Man,” and “Dishoom.”
