Srinagar, Feb 27: Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Thursday said that the revocation of Article 370 has positively impacted Jammu and Kashmir, leading to development, improved security, and an increase in tourism.
Speaking at a press conference in Srinagar, Athawale said that earlier, tourists hesitated to visit J&K due to security concerns. However, after the abrogation of Article 370, the situation has changed significantly.
He said that the Modi government has made several decisions, and revoking Article 370 was a major step. It strengthened development, reduced terrorism, created employment opportunities, and established peace in the region,” Athawale said.
He also said that more than 2.5 million tourists visited Jammu & Kashmir last year, which has boosted the local economy and development. He also reassured that the central government is committed to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood at the right time, as announced by Home Minister Amit Shah.
Commenting on the recent elections, Athawale praised the high voter turnout, saying it reflected the people’s trust in democracy. He added that despite the National Conference-Congress alliance forming the government, the Centre remains focused on J&K’s progress.
During his visit, Athawale also reviewed the progress of centrally-sponsored development schemes and expressed satisfaction with their implementation, stating that these programs are benefiting the people of the J&K.
