Srinagar, Aug 12: An Army jawan died after slipping down a slope during a routine patrol near the Line of Control in north Kashmir’s Uri sector, officials said on Tuesday.The incident took place on Monday when Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, 31, of the Maratha Light Infantry, lost his footing while patrolling a border post and fell to his death. Kumar, a native of Telangana, was declared dead at the spot.His body was taken to the Uri Sub-District Hospital for medico-legal formalities before being sent for the last rites.The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps expressed deep sorrow over the loss in a post on its official X handle. The Corps stated, “Chinar Corps deeply regrets the loss of the precious life of braveheart Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, who was performing operational duty along the Line of Control in Baramulla district. Chinar warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolences, and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family.”Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Army Commander Northern Command, along with all ranks, paid homage to Sepoy Kumar for his supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Northern Command affirmed its support for the bereaved family during this difficult time.Meanwhile, General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff, in a post on X, saluted the supreme sacrifice of Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar. “Indian Army offers deepest condolences and stands in solidarity with the bereaved family in this hour of grief,” he said.
