Srinagar, Dec 10: Senior Army officials on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive review of the security situation in Kishtwar, following allegations that some locals were beaten by troops inside a camp, officials reported.
The meeting, chaired by Lieutenant General Navin Sachedeva, commander of the Nagrota-based XVI Corps, also assessed the conditions in the higher reaches of Kishtwar.
Army spokesman said that “GOC White Knight Corps accompanied by GOC CIF Delta visited Kijai in the Kishtwar sector to review the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness.”
The General Officer Commanding Lieutenant General Sachedeva praised the troops for their vigilance and dedication to safeguarding the region.
Meanwhile Pir Panjal, including areas like Doda, Poonch, Rajouri, and Kishtwar, has witnessed a rise in terrorist activities since last year.
Earlier on November 19, 4 civilians of Kuath village were allegedly tortured by the Chas Army camp of Mughal Maidan tehsil in Kishtwar district. After the incident, locals expressed strong resentment against the Army.
Following the allegations of alleged ill treatment of civilians during the anti-terror operation in Kishtwar, Army launched investigation to ascertain the facts in the incident.
