Anantnag, Apr 12:The Election Expenditure Observer, ShyamManohar Singh, emphasized the importance of robust voter participation in the upcoming elections for the AnantnagRajouri Parliamentary seat, historically marked by low turnout. Speaking after a review meeting on election preparedness, Singh stressed the need to encourage voters to exercise their democratic right without fear or influence.
Addressing reporters at the Dak Bungalow in Anantnag, ShyamManohar Singh underscored the significance of voter turnout in ensuring a representative democracy. Expressing concern over past low participation rates in the AnantnagRajouri Parliamentary seat, Singh urged citizens to actively engage in the electoral process. He emphasized that every vote counts in shaping the future of the constituency and the nation as a whole.
The review meeting, chaired by Singh, focused on essential aspects of election preparedness, including strategies to boost voter participation and monitoring election expenditures. Singh reassured the public that all necessary arrangements, including stringent security measures, were in place to facilitate a smooth and secure voting process.
In response to queries regarding violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), Singh affirmed that strict action would be taken against any infringements. He commended the absence of reported violations thus far but reiterated the vigilance required to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
Singh urged voters to exercise their franchise without succumbing to external pressures or influences. He emphasized the sanctity of the democratic process and urged citizens to cast their votes based on their conscience and informed decisions.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Returning Officer of the constituency, SyeedFakhrudin Hamid, IAS, and District Election Officers (DEOs) from Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Poonch, and Rajouri Districts. Also present were Superintendents and Senior Superintendents of Police, election Nodal Officers, and Assistant Expenditure Observers.
During the meeting, SF Hamid, the Returning Officer, provided an overview of the parliamentary constituency’s profile and outlined measures to ensure a transparent and fair election process. District officials briefed the observer on various aspects, including the status of surveillance teams, adherence to the Model Code of Conduct, expenditure monitoring, and any seizures of cash or contraband.
With the election notification issued for the AnantnagRajouri Parliamentary Constituency on April 12th, the deadline for filing nominations is April 19th, with scrutiny scheduled for April 20th, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature set for April 22nd. The polling date for the constituency is slated for May 7th, 2024.
