Srinagar, Dec 14: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has approved an ex-gratia relief of Rs forty lakhs for the next of kin (NOKs) of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Force personnel who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Anantnag district while deployed for the security duties during Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2022.
Pertinent to mention here, on August 16, a bus carrying security personnel met with a tragic accident in the mountainous terrain of south Kashmir’s Pahalgam area in which seven ITBP personnel were killed while 31 others sustained injuries. The unfortunate mishap occurred near the Frislan Zig Mour, where the bus skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge.
The bus was enroute from Chandanwari to the Pahalgam camp, transporting a total of 41 security personnel, including two Jammu and Kashmir policemen. The preliminary assessment indicates that the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the accident.
As per order released by the Home Department, the ex-gratia relief has been sanctioned and it is distributed among the NOKs of the deceased ITBP personnel who include Late Nandan Singh Chantyal, ASD/GD, 900201701, 4 Bn (Wife) – Rs. 5.00 lacs, Late Dinesh Singh Bohra, CT/GD, 090401861, 4 BN. (Wife) – Rs. 5.00 lacs, Late Subhash Chand Berwal, CT/GD, 130031154, 54 Bn. (Wife) – Rs. 5.00 lacs and Late Abhiraj, CT/Tele, 207010261, 54 Bn (Mother) – Rs. 5.00 lacs
“The sanction is contingent upon the verification of particulars by the Commanding Officer of the local unit/formation during the disbursement process. Payments will be facilitated through the Commanding Officer, who will obtain acknowledgement receipts from the beneficiaries for subsequent submission to the Home Department, J&K,” it said.
The Home Department will, in turn, forward the necessary documents to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India for timely reimbursement of funds.The allocated amount will be drawn by the FA/CAO, Home Department, J&K, for release to the Police Headquarters (PHQ), enabling them to disburse the relief among the NOKs/beneficiaries.
The disbursement will be conducted under the Major Head: 2055-Police, Sub Head: 0957-Internal Security, Detail Head: 032-Relief & Rehabilitation during the financial year 2023-24.
