Srinagar, May 16: Amar Singh College conducted interviews on Thursday for the recruitment of 2nd and 4th semester students into the National Service Scheme (NSS).
The NSS, a Central Sector Scheme under the Government of India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, offers students the opportunity to engage in various community service activities and programs.
The aim of NSS is to provide young students with practical experience in delivering community service, fostering a sense of social responsibility and leadership. Approximately 400 students had registered for NSS, with around 200 students interviewed on Thursday to assess their personality and suitability for the program.
Musharaf Manzoor, NSS leader at Amar Singh College, informed Rising Kashmir that the interviews were conducted by 10 Senior NSS members who were briefed beforehand.
He said a few junior members who had participated in at least 10 NSS events were given the opportunity to conduct interviews after being counselled on proper interview procedures.
Speaking on the significance of NSS, Musharaf said, “It connects students with one another, aiding in the development of their personalities and communication skills.”
NSS volunteers shared their experiences about how participation in the programme enhances their sense of humanity and inspires them to fulfill their duties towards mankind. They said that NSS provides opportunities for voluntary work, leadership development, and outdoor activities, and enables them to step outside their comfort zones and celebrate nature.
