Srinagar, May 28: The All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Pulses, Srinagar Centre, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), conducted a targeted outreach programme for tribal farmers under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) at District Kupwara.
The programme was organised in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kupwara and was sponsored by ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR), Kanpur. The initiative aimed to promote pulse cultivation and enhance productivity in tribal areas through varietal introduction, technical guidance, and input support.
Dr. Kaiser Mohiddin, Head, KVK Kupwara, welcomed the participants and encouraged farmers to adopt scientific methods and use the provided tool kits effectively to enhance yield and soil health. Dr. Ajaz A.
Lone, Principal Investigator, AICRP (Pulses), DARS Rangreth, led the outreach drive, emphasizing the role of improved pulse varieties and agronomic practices in achieving nutritional security and sustainable agriculture in tribal regions.
Dr. R.A. Bhat, Agronomist at KVK Kupwara, conducted a technical session on best agronomic practices for pulses suited to the region’s agro-climatic conditions. As part of the programme, input tool kits, quality seed material, and informative literature on pulse crop cultivation were distributed among the participating farmers.
