Srinagar, Jan 05: The police have launched massive frisking operations in Srinagar and elsewhere to ensure the smooth conduct of Republic day functions across the Valley.
The police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel have set up joint Naka points at various places in Srinagar, where commuters are asked to show their identity cards and documents pertaining to their vehicles and “keep a close watch on suspects.”
The Srinagar police today also conducted frisking in Pratab Park and checked the identity cards of the people. A few days earlier, the joint forces also conducted frisking at Lal Chowk.
Checkpoints have been erected in many places in Srinagar, and frisking has been intensified. The presence of security forces around vital installations in and around the city, as well as other district headquarters, has been enhanced.
Security has also been strengthened around the venues for the Republic Day functions, including the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, where the main function in the Valley would take place.
“Frisking at many locations is just to maintain dominance to avoid any untoward incident before Republic Day,” a senior police officer told Rising Kashmir.
He said these searches at random places are routine, and, in some locations, aerial surveillance is being conducted to keep a strict vigil on the ‘anti-national elements.’
Similar incidents of frisking were also witnessed in north and south Kashmir, where security forces are frisking people in random places to avoid any untoward incident.
