Srinagar, Dec 30: The Agriculture Department in Kashmir recently dispatched a consignment of high-quality vegetables sourced from the scenic Dal Lake, officials said.
The vegetables were sent for Hyderabad and Bangalore, underscoring the department’s commitment to promoting and expanding the reach of Kashmiri produce to new markets.
Shamsul Hassan Mir, Nodal Officer Agriculture Marketing, Department of Agriculture said recently the department sent a huge consignment of different vegetables. He said they have been working hard over the years and it has boosted the confidence of farmers.
“The consignment included Nadru 40 kgs, Turnip 27 kg, Hakh 30 kg, Collard Green 45 kg, Brinjal 20 kg and Sochal leaves (mallow leaves) 21 kg,” he said.
He said that the department is endeavouring to get more and more farmers, agripreneurs attracted towards the national and international trade of Kashmir-specific agriculture produce to fetch high returns for their produce.
Under the holistic development of agriculture and allied sectors, officials said the proper marketing of Kashmir-specific vegetables and other agricultural produce is one of the top priorities and different strategies have been devised in this direction by the department.
Pertinently the entire operation of grading, packing, and labelling of the vegetable consignment was conducted under the strict supervision of the Director Agriculture Kashmir.
Maqbool Hussain, an esteemed international exporter hailing from Srinagar, emphasized the importance of promoting vegetable exports to maximize benefits for farmers. He underscored the potential for increased advantages as a result of such encouragement.
“It is a very good move to see the fresh vegetables in Hyderabad and Bangalore markets. It will bring the famers at the national and international markets,” he said.
He highlighted that the export of vegetables and agricultural produce to both national and Gulf markets has opened a global window for Kashmir-specific agri-produce.
