Ganderbal, Nov 14: The lone playground used by sports lovers of several villages in the Bonibagh area of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is in a dilapidated condition for the last two years after the debris of a landslide that occurred nearby was dumped in the field.
The locals of Boninagh said the administration had assured them that the playfield will be renovated soon but nothing has been done to date. Sports enthusiasts say they face several problems while playing on the ground.
“We have no other option but to play in this dilapidated ground as this is the only sports field for many villages; otherwise we have to travel around 20 kilometers to play in another ground which is a long distance,” Jaffar Majeed, a player, told Rising Kashmir.
The people of the area said that “in order to promote sports activities, the government is spending crores of rupees but this ground is being ignored like it does not exist”.
They appealed to the Sports Council to pay a visit to the ground and take steps toward its renovation “for the better interest of the youth of several villages”.
