Srinagar, Feb 22: Days after assuming charge, Lieutenant MV Suchindra Kumar, the Army Commander of the Northern Command on Thursday visited forward posts of the Army in north Kashmir ‘s Kupwara district and reviewed operational preparedness.
He was accompanied by the Chinar Corps Commander and the GOC Vajra Division and interacted with troops and lauded them for their high morale and round-the-clock vigilance.
This vital visit comes days after higher reaches in Kashmir witnessed heavy snowfall and as per security experts’ chances of infiltration remain high during this period. However there has been zero infiltration from the past one year in the region.
Army spokesman said that Lt. Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, Army Commander Northern Commander visited forward posts of Chinar Corps to review operational preparedness. He was accompanied by Chinar Corps Commander and GOC Vajra Division interacted with troops and lauded them for high morale and round-the-clock vigil.
“The Northern Commander urged them to continue working with utmost zeal and dedication,” he said.
Earlier he also paid homage to the brave hearts at Chinar War Memorial in Srinagar. After assuming his charge on Feb 19, this was the first visit of Northern Army Commander Lt. Kumar’s visit to Kashmir.
He is an alumnus of NDA, Khadakwasla and was commissioned into ASSAM REGIMENT in June 1985. He commanded 59 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion (ASSAM), an Infantry Brigade and an Infantry Division on the Line of Control and commanded the highly active White Knight Corps.
Lt. Kumar also held the appointments of Additional Directorate General of Military Intelligence, Directorate General of Military Intelligence, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strat) and Vice Chief of Army Staff of Indian Army prior to taking over his current appointment.
The Northern Command is responsible for guarding the country’s borders with Pakistan and China in the north, and is the nerve centre of counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
