Srinagar, Jun 6: Chairman The Kashmir Farmers Federation (KFF) Adv. Ab Rashid Hanjura on Saturday raised concerns about the ongoing digitisation of land records in Jammu and Kashmir, saying there are several issues in the process that could create problems for farmers and landowners.
Speaking at a press conference, Hanjura said the digitisation work is moving ahead without proper ground verification and enough involvement of farmers.
According to him, this has led to a number of differences between traditional revenue records and the new digital entries. He said such mistakes could result in ownership disputes, inheritance-related problems, legal complications, and difficulties in getting bank loans and other services.
The Federation pointed to cases where landowners’ names were missing, entries were incorrect, or land measurements did not match. It said that digitisation should be carried out only after a thorough and transparent land settlement process.
KFF called for the digitisation exercise to be paused until proper settlement and physical verification are completed. He also demanded a reliable system for addressing grievances, easier public access to records, and better training and accountability for revenue officials.
Hanjura said that a detailed representations has been sent to Financial Commissioner Revenue and CM’s Office, asking for urgent action to protect farmers’ land rights and avoid future disputes.
He reaffirmed Federations commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests and urged the government to ensure the digitisation process is transparent, accurate, and fair.
Dr. Gh. Mohammad Rather, Organiser of the Federation, and Media Incharge Sarwar Maqbool were also present at the press conference.
