Kulgam, Mar 05: The authorities in Kulgam on Wednesday intensified market inspections to curb overpricing and ensure that shoppers receive fair value for their purchases.
Tehsildar Kulgam, Bilal Ahmad, said that with the holy month of Ramadan underway, routine inspections have been strengthened to guarantee the availability of quality products at reasonable prices.
“There are directions from DC Kulgam to intensify market checking,” he said.
Tehsildar Kulgam said that the primary objective of these inspections is to protect consumers from overpricing and substandard goods. During Wednesday’s market inspection, several shopkeepers were found violating the Commodities Act, resulting in fines totaling ₹10,000. Besides, rotten fruits and vegetables were confiscated and destroyed.
“We visited fruit and vegetable shops, date vendors, bakeries, and meat shops to assess product quality and prevent overcharging,” Tehsildar said.
He urged consumers to report any violations to the concerned department, assuring strict action against offenders. “There will be no compromise on quality standards and pricing regulations,” he added.
He said that the inspection drive was carried out in collaboration with the Food Safety Department, police, revenue officials, CAPD, and other allied departments.
