Srinagar, Jan 03: The Commercial establishments in the Reasi district have been directed to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in their business premises within the next 21 days to enhance public security, the official said.
Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Vishesh Paul Mahajan has issued a directive, further urging the proprietors of hotels, guest houses, restaurants, dhabas, shopping malls, and other commercial entities in Katra and Ransoo to submit comprehensive details of their employees to the local police stations and tehsildars within the stipulated timeframe.
‘As per the order issued by the administration states that installation of CCTV cameras is crucial not only for crime control but also for bolstering public safety and preventing potential terrorist activities,” he said.
The order stressed the deterrent effect on criminals, anti-social elements, and those with anti-national motives, it highlighted that the presence of CCTV cameras outside these establishments serves as a force multiplier.
“To deter criminals, anti-social elements, and anti-national elements from engaging in unlawful activities, the installation of CCTV cameras outside such establishments is deemed a force multiplier, instilling greater confidence among the general public and customers,” DC said and directed to install CCTVs within 21 days.
The order cautioned that any violation would incur legal consequences as outlined in section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
In a separate directive addressing commercial units in Katra and Ransoo, he stressed the necessity of verifying employees for the safety of the public and pilgrims visiting shrines.
“Business owners were instructed to provide employee details, including Aadhaar numbers, addresses, and mobile phone numbers, to the respective police stations and concerned tehsildars within 21 days,” it said.
