A small house in Nillow village of Kulgam district scripted their own inspiration which they proudly narrate the success of their 13-year-old daughter to the visitors thronging their place these days.
The home with a single room houses the four members of a family. The parents and their two wards. Their younger daughter, Minha Qayoom burned the midnight oil to write the Quran by her hand.
Minha says, for six months continuously during the night she would switch off the lights and lit up the solar lantern from 10 pm to 2 am and work on scripting the holy Quran every night.
“We have a single room to live in, for six months I used to light up the lantern to keep writing the Quran,” she said.
The family, which previously resided in a single room while the girl wrote the Quran, consisting of four family members, has now constructed a new house.
Minha studies in class 7th and would do her homework during day time. She would help her family to contribute towards the kitchen work. At times she would fall asleep on the Quran she was writing.
“No doubt the Quran is available everywhere, but it has always been my wish to write the Quran with my own hands one day. All praises to Allah who guided me to complete my dream,” she said.
The Quran she wrote has 611 pages, and while writing all these pages, she donned the support of her family and the seminary teacher.
“The struggle was we were having a single room, we used to eat, prepare and sleep in the same room only. I had to maintain the space and not disturb the family too. But, none of these odds kept me behind in reaching to my childhood dream,” she said.
Today this family is quite pleased with the work Minha has gracefully done. “This act has given us the boost that our daughter could achieve any goal in life and nothing can stop her from reaching what many with limited resources could,” Abdul Qayoom, Minha’s father said.
Qayoom said he’s proud of his daughter and grateful to the seminary school. “My daughter would attend regular school, and after school hours, she would go to the seminary school to learn the Quran.
“My dream now is to do complete memorization of the Quran and continue with academics too. The world has so many different stories and evils in it, but my message would be that everyone should keep faith and proceed on the journey of life,” she added.
She said that the Quran she wrote contains no mistakes concerning the Zabr or Zaar—the sounds in the Arabic language. “My handwritten Quran was reviewed by one of the prominent preachers of the valley, and he complimented me for this achievement,” Minha said.
