Srinagar, May 15: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jammu and Kashmir President, Mehraj Malik on Thursday strongly condemned the derogatory and objectionable remarks made about Colonel Sofia Qureshi by Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah. He said the minister not only insulted a brave daughter of India but also attacked the integrity of womanhood and national unity.
Malik in a statement issued here said this incident is an attempt to undermine the positive atmosphere of pride and enthusiasm sweeping the country following the success of “Operation Sindoor”, carried out by the Indian Army against Pakistan.
Colonel Qureshi, who was part of the tri-services team, also participated in press briefings on Operation Sindoor alongside Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh.
The AAP leader described the remarks as extremely painful and shameful, calling them a reflection of a petty and disgusting mindset.
“How someone holding a responsible position could make such immoral and hateful comments,” he asked.
Malik demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately seek Vijay Shah’s resignation and take strict action against him to prevent malicious intentions from disturbing the country’s communal harmony and unity.
He also condemned the online trolling and targeted campaigns against Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his daughter following the ceasefire with Pakistan. He urged the Prime Minister to take swift and strict action against those involved in this malicious online harassment without further delay.
