Jammu, Dec 07: A team of officers from the Jammu & Kashmir Branch office of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a Search and Seizure operation at the premises of M/S United Tuff Glass Pvt Ltd Unit II, IGC SAMBA, J&K, on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
The unit was found to be involved in the manufacture and sale of Safety Glass Toughened (Tempered) and Laminated Glass-Toughened (Tempered) without the required BIS Certification Mark, violating the Safety Glass (Quality Control) order issued by the Government of India, the BIS said in a statement issued here.
During the operation, a significant quantity of finished and semi-finished stock was seized by the enforcement team led by Pankaj Atri, Joint Director, along with Niraj Mishra, Assistant Director, and Raj Kumar, Assistant Director, BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office.
BIS Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office is initiating action against the offenders under the BIS Act, 2016, which is punishable with imprisonment up to 2 years or a fine not less than Rs 2 lakh.
“The enforcement action is a response to the manufacturing and sale of fake ISI marked products that pose a threat to consumer safety. The public is urged to verify the genuineness of the ISI Mark on products by visiting the BIS website www.bis.gov.in or through the BIS Care App. Any instances of misuse of the ISI mark can be reported to the Head, Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office, or by email at [email protected],” the BIS said.
