Srinagar, Mar 16: In ssa groundbreaking medical milestone, Perfect Vision Super Speciality Eye Hospital, Nowgam, Srinagar has made history byconducting J&Ks first Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) corneal transplant. The complex procedure, which marked a significant advancement in ophthalmological care, was carried out by corneal surgeons Dr Omar Rashid.
DMEK is a cutting-edge corneal transplant that involves replacing the innermost layer of the cornea (Only 10 microns thickness) with healthy donor tissue, offering improved outcomes and faster recovery compared to traditional corneal transplantation methods.
The successful completion of the inaugural DMEK surgery in J&K represents a major leap forward in the field of ophthalmology, providing new hope for individuals grappling with debilitating corneal conditions.
