Jammu, Mar 22: Dr Jitendra Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate for the Udhampur parliamentary seat, on Friday asked his critics to visit the district to see “real development”.
Dr Singh kicked off his election campaign by addressing a public gathering at Ramlila Maidan in Kathua. He was accompanied by Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
The Union Minister said those who claim development has not occurred fail to recognise the “tangible advancements” taking place. He cited examples like improved access to education, illustrated by the enrollment of local children in medical colleges and enhanced connectivity via expressways linking to Delhi.
He highlighted his role in facilitating the installation of Maharaja Gulab Singh’s statue at Lakhanpur, contrasting it with the previous administration’s perceived subservience to Kashmir-centric policies.
Dr Singh also criticised the Congress Party for allegedly neglecting the interests of the region, particularly regarding the revocation of the Dogra Certificate and disparities in youth reservations.
He underscored the Modi government’s commitment to rectifying such injustices, pointing to recent initiatives aimed at ensuring equitable treatment for the youth of Kathua, Doda and Udhampur. (KNO)
