Kulgam, Jan 17: A Primary Health Center (PHC) in Kilam area of Kulgam district is reeling in darkness for the past four days.
According to locals, electricity transformer experienced a technical snag causing blackout in the area.
The non-availability of electricity has also hit the patient care in the hospital.
The locals claimed that the X-ray facility, lab, nebulization, oxygen and other facilities have come to grinding halt giving tough time to patients.
A health care official said the generator with the hospital can’t be used 24/7.
“We use it in shifts. If we get some 10 patients for X-ray we start our generator, however, the vaccines which we need to put in cold storage get affected in absence of electricity,” he added.
An employee on conditions of anonymity said, the hospital had a transformer that would cater to it only, but post floods in 2014 the same was taken by the PDD and later the village and the hospital are receiving electricity from the same transformer.
Reyaz Ahmad, District Development Council (DDC) member Devsar told Rising Kashmir that he has taken up this issue with district administration.
Showkat Ahmad, Executive Engineer, Kulgam said the transformer is in the workshop and will be repaired very soon.
“The said transformer will be installed within two days positively,” he said.
