Srinagar, Oct 16: A five-day workshop on developing quality assessment items for the subjects, language (English), Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, for classes 3rd, 5th, 8th and 10th organised by the Education Research Survey and Analysis (ERSA) Division of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Kashmir, concluded at the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) auditorium here on Saturday.

A total of 350 items were developed over the course of four days by about two dozen subject specialists from all the 10 districts of the valley, who then submitted them for posting on the Ministry of Education portal.

Earlier, Joint Director of SCERT, Mohammad Sharif Dehdar, welcomed the participants and saw to it that the logistics for the workshop were in order.

The event concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation among the attendees.

Another event at the SCERT office complex featured a thorough presentation on the fundamentals of official communication from former Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Masood Samoon, who has also held the position of Director School Education Kashmir.

Samoon provided a bare-bones explanation of the components of office communication with the use of a PowerPoint presentation. He held a question-and-answer session to round up the presentation, and the SCERT staff participated enthusiastically.

Pertinently, the SCERT has been holding a series of talks to promote teacher professional development among the employees, with Samoon’s address being the third.

In a third event, some 155 teachers, who have completed a six-week course through a blended mode of online and offline classroom training entitled “Constructive Teaching & Learning with Technology,” were felicitated at an impressive function at the SCERT auditorium.

The program was hosted by SCERT in partnership with UNICEF and the Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) Mumbai’s Centre for Excellence in Teacher Education. The teachers, after having received the training, will now be called as Master Trainers.

Joint Director, SCERT, Jammu , Hem Raj Pakhroo, Associate Professor, CETE-TISS, Dr. Amina Charania, Education Specialist, UNICEF , Danish Aziz, and a host of other academic officials attended the event. The participants were given certificates at the end of the program.

All these programs are being held under the direct supervision and guidance of the Principal Secretary, School Education Department, Alok Kumar (IFS) who also holds the charge of the Director SCERT.
