Anantnag, Dec 23: The authorities sealed a mutton shop in south Kashmir’s Anantnag for flouting the government-approved rates, while many others were served with notice.
An official said a team was constituted after the food department received complaints from the people that some mutton dealers were selling meat at high prices in the Khanabal area.
Mudasir Ahmad, Assistant Director of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Anantnag told Rising Kashmir that the team inspected several mutton shops in the area and found them violating norms.
“During the inspection, the team acted swiftly and sealed one mutton shop after he was caught red-handed while many others were served notice for overcharging,” he said.
An official warned of strict action against the erring shopkeepers flouting government-approved rates.
A fine of over 80,000 rupees was imposed so far for various violations this month, the official said, adding that many mutton dealers have given the undertaking to abide by the government-approved rates.
The dealers must abide by the government norms and our teams will continue to keep the rates in check, the official said.
