5000 candidates register in mega job fair in Jammu

Jammu, Nov 25: Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department (SDD), Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon on Friday inaugurated a mega job fair organised by the Skill Development Department in collaboration with Desh Bhagat University (DBU), Mandi Gobindgarh Punjab at Government Polytechnic Bikram Chowk, Jammu. 
About 5000 candidates registered through online and offline mode while around 25 reputed multi-national, national and local companies and industries participated to hire the candidates. 
Director, SDD, Sudershan Kumar, was the guest of honour on the occasion while Leena Padha, Mission Director, Skill Development Mission, Ramesh Chander, ADDC Jammu, Arun Bangotra, Principal, Government Polytechnic Jammu, Dr Sandeep Singh, President, Desh Bhagat University, Dr Harsh Sadawarti, Vice President, Desh Bhagat University and Principals of various Government Polytechnics and ITIs of Jammu and Kashmir were also present. 
Dr Samoon lauded the efforts of the Government Polytechnic Jammu administration for conducting the job fair. He highlighted various challenges a student faces in seeking job and encouraged them to convert these challenges into fruitful opportunities by continuous hard work and dedication. “This job fair will adopt an integrated approach in addressing the employment and employability issues by making jobs available to the candidates according to their potential and educational qualification,” he said. 
Samoon said that amid high unemployment, employers face challenges filling the technical and skilled jobs and such job fairs can help to overcome this talent paradox. 
Later, Dr Samoon inaugurated CIIIT Hostel Block constructed by PWD. Speaking on the occasion, Director Skill Development briefed about various aspects of skill development department. Principal of the college briefed about various industries and companies participating in the event.
