Budgam, Jan 21: Authorities in Budgam on Saturday imposed a complete ban on throwing and burning garbage on the main roads, public places, links roads, tourist places, rivers, links roads, and forest areas across the district.

An official from the Budgam district administration told the Rising Kashmir that the a section of people throw garbage or burn garbage on road sides and in public places and other link roads, which lead to severe health hazards and add to the environmental pollution in the district.

“In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam has imposed the complete ban  and who ever was involved in these activities now onwards will be dealt as per law,” he said.

He said that all the households should make use of proper dust bins within their compounds to collect and segregate the kitchen waste. There will also be a complete ban on the use of single-use plastic in the district.

” The Executive Officers (EOs) of all the municipalities of district Budgam have been asked to use the available men and machinery to implement this order in their municipalities Committee. However for the rural areas of the district, the Block Development Officers (BDOs) have to implement this order,” official said.

He said that all the commercial units and establishments, including shops, schools, colleges, hotels, and restaurants, have also been directed that the waste generated by them be properly managed and all their compounds and surrounding spaces be kept clean and litter-free.

It has also been ordered that the BMOs including the heads of nursing homes, dispensaries, laboratories, and medical shops, will also ensure bio-medical waste, expired and used medicines, equipment, etc. are disposed of as per the Bio-Medical Waste Rules.

The official said that the executive officers of the municipalities and BDOs within their blocks will impose a fine as per the relevant provisions of law in case any person is found to have violated these rules.
