Srinagar, Jan 22:  A civilian was injured after terrorists hurled a grenade in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district, police said.
A senior officer told Rising Kashmir that terrorists hurled a grenade in the Eidgah locality on Sunday evening in which one person was injured.
“One civilian received a minor splinter injury to one person. The area has been cordoned off,” he said, adding that the injured person has been identified as Ajaz Ahmed Deva, son of Abdul Rasheed Deva, aged 32 years, and resident of Sangam, Srinagar.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson in a tweet said that the injured civilian was taken to a hospital and is out of danger. A search operation has been launched to catch the culprit(s), he said.
“Soon after the attack, senior police officers immediately reached the terror crime spot,” he said.
The police further said they have picked up a few (people) for examination after the grenade attack. “The injured civilian has been discharged after first aid in SKIMS Soura. Further, some suspects have been picked up for examination,” the spokesperson said.
Police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law and an investigation is in progress, he said, adding that the officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this terror crime.
It was the third blast in J&K during the past 24 hours in the region. On Saturday, 9 persons were injured after twin blasts were reported in the Narval area of Jammu City.
Security arrangements across J&K have been tightened ahead of Republic day on January 26.
