Third accused arrested in sextortion case

Srinagar, Oct 10: A third man has been arrested in a sextortion case after two self –styled journalists were taken into custody, police said on Saturday.
In a tweet, Srinagar police said, “Third accused arrested in rape, blackmailing and extortion cases, namely Showkat Ahmad Ragoom, S/o Mohd Khalil Ragoo, R/o Anantnag. He is an associate of Nadeem Nadu and is working in the PHE department. Two self-styled journalists have already been arrested in this case.
Earlier, two self-styled journalists, Nadeem Nadu and Salman Shah had already been arrested by Srinagar police following a complaint by a girl.
The victim girl in her complaint alleged “that Ganie alias Nadeem Nadu of Qazibagh in Anantnag “lured” her through his WhatsApp group for individuals who were in need of assistance and repeatedly raped her by sedating her.”
“The victim further claimed that the accused had blackmailed her into submission by taking offensive photos of her after sedating her. She was also robbed of her gold jewellery by the accused.
“On September 30th, 2022, Srinagar police arrested a self-proclaimed journalist, Nadeem Ahmed Ganie (@Nadeem Nadu) of Qazibagh, Anantnag in a rape case.”
According to the police, “The victim also said that the accused took her offensive photos after sedating her and used these to blackmail her into forced sexual encounters numerous times.” “The accused also took her gold jewels in the course of blackmailing her,” the police continued.
A case under FIR no 50/22 in sections 376, 384,506 of the IPC also stands registered in Women PS Srinagar district.
