Jammu, Nov 3: The new Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Rajinder Sharma today mandated the officials of the corporation to visit the city wards twice a week.
Talking to media persons here, Sharma said that as part of the reorientation of the municipal corporation, several new measures are being taken up. “Under one such measure, it has been mandated for the officials of the Jammu Municipal Corporation that they will conduct two visits of the city wards along with the concerned Corporator and listen to the issues/grievances of the people,” he said.
These grievances/complaints, he said, will be received in writing from the public, and during the second visit of the officials to the area in a week, the issues/grievances need to be addressed by the concerned officials from different wings of the corporation including PDD, sanitation, and Khilafwarzi among other divisions.
Sharma said that the new decision has been taken in line with the Prime Minister’s commitment to providing local self-governance to the people at their doorstep.
“PM promised from the ramparts of the Red Fort that he is committed to strengthening the local self-governance across the country. Our small initiative is in line with the PM’s vision,” he said.
Replying to a question about the continuous rise in dengue cases across the Jammu division, especially in Jammu district, the new Mayor said, “Efforts will be doubled in coming days to contain the spread of the disease. Our teams have already been fogging and spraying in the worst-affected areas of the city.”
Meanwhile, in yet another historic decision, the Jammu Mayor has announced to stop charging vehicles parked on the premises of Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) Jammu.
While announcing this decision, he said, “Most patients and attendants who are charged parking fees are not in a position to pay the fee. So, I have decided to discontinue this practice.”
