Jammu, Jan 21: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha dedicated the 34th edition of the ‘Awaam Ki Awaaz’ programme to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, acknowledging their historic participation in the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra.’
“The initiative, described as a powerful Jan-Abhiyan, aims to reach out to vulnerable sections of society, fostering a new future for a developed India,” stated Lt Governor.
With the participation of 40 lakh citizens from Jammu and Kashmir, the Lt Governor emphasised that their involvement has laid a robust foundation for progress in both rural and urban areas of the Union Territory. He expressed confidence that the collective efforts and healthy competition among districts would propel J&K UT forward on the path of prosperity and inclusive development.
During the event, Lt Governor Sinha shared inspirational success stories, applauding individuals like Bikram Singh of Jhankar, Kathua, for revolutionizing farming methods in his village. Singh’s expertise in integrated farming and his willingness to assist others exemplify his commitment to agricultural diversification.
The Lt Governor also highlighted the determination of Ghulam Hassan Sheikh from Chamboora, Budgam, whose strategic business expansion from ‘Carpets to Kashmiri Lal Mirch’ serves as an inspiration for other entrepreneurs.
Additionally, Ghulam Hussain Wani, a skilled carpet artisan from Srinagar, was recognised for his exceptional expertise in carpet repairs, contributing significantly to the preservation of this rare art form.
The Lt Governor commended the economic empowerment of women in rural areas through self-help groups, citing the success story of Kaushalya Devi from Chenani, Udhampur.
Praising initiatives like the ‘No Helmet No Petrol’ road safety campaign by District Administration Anantnag and Petroleum Dealer Association, Lt Governor Sinha acknowledged the efforts of individuals like Nisar Ahmed, a resident of Mattan; Vishal Roudhan, a youth from Udhampur and Kulgam’s Mahmooda Akhtar Mahmooda Akhtar for their contributions to social campaigns and the promotion of traditional hand embroidery.
Highlighting the UT Administration’s efforts to develop amenities for tourists in rural areas, Lt Governor Sinha noted the surge in registrations for homestays, emphasising the immense potential of offbeat tourist destinations. He urged residents of rural and border areas to seize this opportunity, assuring support from the administration.
The Lt Governor voiced the suggestions received from Balwinder Salaria from Billawar, Kathua; Bandipora’s Yasir Rashid; Varun Bharti from Kathua and Arjamend from village Nowpachi, Kishtwar regarding waste management in rural areas, clean cooking fuel, renewable energy and provision of telemedicine services in villages and steps to ensure public participation in the extension of telemedicine services.
