Pertinently, NIFT Srinagar on Monday celebrated its third Convocation at its new Campus at Ompora, Budgam.

The ceremony was held for the batch of 40 outgoing students.

Besides, the Union Secretary of Ministry of Textiles Upendra Prasad Singh who was the Chief Guest of the event, Director General NIFT Shantamanu was the Guest of the Honour at the occasion.

Dean Academics NIFT Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Narang also attended the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Syed Fakhrudin Hamid, Registrar Kashmir University Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir, SSP Budgam Tahir Saleem Khan and other dignitaries were also present at the occasion.

On the occasion, Singh said, “Of NIFT batch 2018-22, at least 40 students were honored with the graduate degrees. The proud moment is that most of the students have got job placements and packages.”

“Earlier, there were only two departments in the NIFT Srinagar because we had no permanent campus but in a very short time, this will be the full-fledged campus,” he said.

Singh further said, “There were only two courses that were being taught in the institution. But from this year we have introduced two more courses and in the next year we are planning to introduce two more courses.”

He added, “With the development in introduction of new courses, we don’t want this institution to be confined for a few students only, we want the students of outside Jammu and Kashmir to take admissions in this prestigious institute.”

The union ministry said, “We want the students to have and enjoy the adequate facilities in the NIFT Srinagar. We are thankful to the Jammu and Kashmir government for giving us a beautiful piece of land so that we can provide better institutions for the students.”

On asking about the availability of manpower, Singh said, “Earlier, we were having a problem of inadequate faculty, but recently we have recruited the faculty and most importantly we have retained them and have given 20 percent of extra payments in addition to the basic salary.”

“As far as the reserved quota for the students of Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, we have reserved 35 percent of the quota for the local students,” he said.
