Ganderbal, Dec 30: Six days skill development training for rural youth (STRY) on “Integrated Horticultural Practices in Fruit Crops to Combat Climate Change” concluded at KVK Ganderbal Shuhama Campus.The training Programme was organised from 24th to 29th December 2022 at KVK Ganderbal.
The concluding session was presided over by Dr. IshfaqAbidi, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Ganderbal and attended by Scientific and supporting staff of KVK Ganderbal and rural youth. More than thirty participants had registered for the programme.
The aim of the training programme was to upscale the skills of trainees keeping in view the climate change. At the outset, Dr. Shafat Ahmad Banday, Training Coordinator presented the summary report of the six days training programme.
It was revealed that twenty-eight young and aspiring rural youth were trained regarding various horticultural practices particularly training and pruning, Integrated pest & disease management and diversification of fruits. Speakers from different Divisions of the University were invited as resource persons to train the participants. Dr. IshfaqAbidi, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Ganderbal emphasized on the adoption of latest technology to increase productivity of fruit crops. Dr. Abidi advised the participants to adopt high density orcharding and go for diversification of fruit cultivation for economic development and sustainability.
He thanked Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Director Extension and MANAGE Hyderabad for ensuring skill literacy by sponsoring the series of STRY programmes. During the feedback session, the participants praised efforts of this Kendra for conducting such programmes which are impactful and help them to improve their skills. The event ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Farooq Ahmad Ahanger, SMS Plant Protection.
