Jammu, Dec 17: Parents with children having deformities can contact helpline numbers for free treatment at GMC Jammu. This was announced during a one-day workshop on Ponseti’s Method of clubfoot management here organized by the Department of Orthopaedics GMC Jammu in association with CURE India. The helpline numbers are 8800020381 for Jammu, and 8800020516 for Kashmir.
According to a statement, CURE India has 335 designated clubfoot clinics across all the states in India and over 83,000 children are enrolled on this non-surgical method. The mission is to ensure compulsory treatment for all children born with clubfoot across India.
Doctors from Jammu & Kashmir participated in the CME. Dr. Anil Agarwal, HOD Orthopaedics, (Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya, Delhi) and Dr. Rudra Prasad, HOD Orthopaedics, (Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, Bangalore) led the sessions.
Ms. Ayushi Sudan IAS (MD, NHM, Govt of J&K) inaugurated the CME in the presence of Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal & Dean, GMC Jammu & Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, HOD Orthopaedics, GMC Jammu. Agreements were signed between Govt of Jammu & Kashmir and CURE India.
This is the 7th such training program by CURE India for health professionals in J&K UT. ICRC supports this unique initiative where over 2500 children have already been treated. Mr. Aijaz Rather represented ICRC in the CME.
This course was attended by 63 Orthopaedic surgeons from different regions of J&K and Leh/Ladakh. Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal, GMC emphasized that GMC is committed to the eradication of clubfoot deformity in the region.
Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, HOD Orthopaedics welcomed the delegates. Dr. Santosh George, National Director, CURE India spoke about the vision of CURE India. Dr. Atula Jamir, National Coordinator CURE India conducted interviews for candidates to be recruited at various centres in Jammu to manage the children with deformities.
Professor Abdul Ghani, HOU Orthopaedics presented the vote of thanks. Mr. Basant Seyal, Nodal Officer for J&K, Rubia Hamid, State Coordinator J&K and Jyoti Merry Sandhu were involved in the organizing of the event.
