Srinagar, Sep 16: The two-week long SwachhataPakhwaada 2022 concluded on Friday at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar and during the program many activities were organized by the organizers.
The program was organized by the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) Committee of NIT Srinagar from 1st September 2022 to 15th September 2022. Both faculty members and students took active part in all activities on the campus.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal along with Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari and Dean Students Welfare Prof. Abdul Liman felicitated the winners with mementoes and certificates.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Sehgal said “SwachhataPakhwada” is a part of “Swachhta Abhiyan” and it was initiated, with the objective of bringing a fortnight of intense focus on the issues and practices of cleanliness.
“The main purpose of this Programme was to create awareness among our students about the need and importance of a clean environment,” he said.
Prof. Sehgal said they will continue to support such programs on the campus, so that everyone will benefit from these initiatives.
Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said it is not just the responsibility of one person, but the entire society should come forward and make their surroundings neat and clean.
“People should fear the consequences of pollution and filth. As long as the fear exists, people won’t get complacent and the campaign won’t lose footfalls,” he said, adding that such campaigns are the need of the hour.
Prof. Bukhari also discussed various initiatives with the students to make NIT Srinagar a green campus. He also urged students to protect and conserve the environment at the individualistic level.
EBSB Committee members Dr. Ranjeet Kumar Rout, Dr. Vijay Kumar, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Shakeel Wasim, Dr. Mukund Dutt Sharma, Dr. Mohsin Khan, Dr. Omkar Singh, and Dr. Jaya Srivastava are jointly organizing SwachhtaPakhwaada to motivate the students towards a clean and green initiative.
Prof. Sehgal, Prof. Bukhari, Prof. Liman, and EBSB Committee members along with all other faculty members and student volunteers took SwachhtaShapath (Oath) to make the country clean. They also initiated a “Cleaning March” around the campus.
The two-week program mega awareness campaigns included, cleanliness of public places including canteens and health centre, collection of polythene bags from campus, hand wash and mask distribution campaigns, and Personal Hygiene Day.
“Green Institute Drive (Sapling Plantation and their survival), community outreach among the public in adjacent areas, Swachhata Action Day and prize distribution day in which students were encouraged to continue such initiatives.
