Jammu, Sept 29: Panic has gripped Udhampur district after the town rocked by twin blasts in less than eight hours. Two people were injured in the first blast.
ADGP Mukesh Singh told media persons that the first blast occurred last night (Wednesday) at around 10: 30 pm in Udhampur-Basantgarh route bus parked near a petrol pump at Domail area, while the second blast occurred in a bus parked at Udhampur Bus Stand at around 6 am on Thursday.
“Two people injured in the first blast sustained minor injuries. They are undergoing treatment,” the official said.
The police officer further added that both the buses reached Udhampur town from a common place, Basantgarh.
“The preliminary investigations revealed that a common high-density improvised explosive device (IED) was used in both the blasts,” he said.
The police officer said that the IEDs were possibly placed in the buses during the night hours.
To further probe into the matter, the officer said, “Teams of different agencies including Army’s bomb disposal squad have reached Udhampur and are assisting us to reach at a conclusion.”
“We’re also taking some cues from the previous blasts in this region in the recent months to crack this case,” he added.
Asked whether sticky bombs were used in the twin blasts, he said, “From preliminary investigation, it seems so.”
On whether RDX was also used, he said, “At this stage nothing can be ruled out.”
Meanwhile agencies have reported that a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also reached Udhampur town as the elite force is likely to take over all the seized documents and details of the case from Jammu and Kashmir Police to further probe into the matter.
Earlier on March 9 this year, one person was killed and 14 others were injured in a low-intensity IED blast at Udhampur’s Salathia Chowk area. Later in June, police arrested the key conspirator of the case, Mohammad Ramzan Sohil of Halla Bohar Dhar in Ramban district along with two of his accomplices, Khurshid Ahmed of Dessa, Doda and Nissar Ahmed Khan of Bhaderwah and concluded that they had placed a sticky bomb at Salathia chowk on the direction of their handler based in Pakistan to terrorise and kill people.
