Srinagar, Sept 29: Hours after two powerful explosions rocked Udhampur town since Wednesday night, the security agencies have sounded alert in Kashmir, police officials said.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that in view of twin blasts in Udampur district in which two persons were injured, the higher authorities have sounded alert across the Valley.
“The security agencies are using digital surveillance at sensitive locations to track suspicious activities. We have mounted surveillance devices and CCTV mounted vehicles have been placed at multiple places as part of security in the city,” he said.
The officer said the strict vigil is being maintained through high-resolution cameras.
“The digital video feeds will be monitored at three levels to ensure enhanced safety and security of the people,” he said.
“Along the Srinagar-Jammu highway, we have directed officers to keep surveillance on suspected persons. More bunkers and extra barricades are being erected along the road.
“The deployment of paramilitary forces has been increased at vital locations to foil any attempts by anti-national elements,” the officer said.
The twin explosions in Udhampur town have come after nearly six months. On March 9 this year, one person was killed and 17 others were injured in an explosion caused by a sticky bomb in Slathia Chowk area of the district.
Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir in first week of October. During the visit, the HM will also meet members of the business community, political leaders of different parties, and panchayat representatives.
Last week, Srinagar Police said they are using high-tech surveillance and are keeping a 24/7 vigil across Srinagar city using cameras fixed on drones.
In a tweet, Srinagar Police said, “Aerial surveillance by using modern drones with high-resolution cameras is going on in suspected localities of Srinagar through which we look for anti-social elements, criminals, terrorists, OGWs.”
“These may not be visible from the ground but be assured that life, and property of citizens will be safeguarded,” it said.
