Baramulla, Oct 25: An overnight blaze gutted a two-storey house and partially damaged a mosque in Tarzoo village of north Kashmir’s Sopore, officials said.

An official of the fire and emergency department said that the fire broke out in a residential building in Tarzoo area of Sopore at around 1:30 am which later on engulfed a nearby mosque also.

The official said that two firefighters were also injured while dousing flames.

He said that fire broke out at Izat Shah colony in Tarzoo Sopore involving a 2-storey residential house belonging to Showkat Ahmad Najar and Sajad Ahmad Najar, sons of Nazir Ahmad Najar. The house was completely gutted in the fire incident.

Mohammad Akbar, an official of the Fire and Emergency Services department said that they received the call at around 1:50 hours and its Sopore station immediately rushed three water tenders to the area.

“The firefighters faced a tough time while controlling the flames. One LPG cylinder also exploded in the incident, hence making it difficult for the firefighters,” the official told Rising Kashmir.

Two firefighters identified as Ali Mohammad Reshi and Wajahat Ahmad Dar sustained minor injuries before the flames were brought under control and prevented from spreading further.

“Both the firefighters are out of danger and are being treated. Their selfless services saved the whole locality from the massive blaze,” the official added.
