Srinagar, April 09: Like in other parts of the country, the Jammu and Kashmir Health Department would conduct a two-day Covid-19 mock drill in all hospitals for an emergency response starting from tomorrow to ensure medical equipment and other infrastructure were functioning properly.
A nationwide Covid mock drill is set to be carried out across states and union territories on April 10 and April 11 as the country reported a surge in cases over the past few weeks.
“Amid rise in cases, the Covid-19 preparedness-related mock drill would be conducted tomorrow and go on up to the next day,” a health department official said.
“All the PMCs, Directors, CMOs and Medical Superintendents are requested to conduct the drill as planned. Mission Director NHM, J&K Ayushi Sudan would furnish the hospital-wise report in the evening,” the official said.
The health department has directed all the heads of the institutions to be in the ready mode and check medical equipment and other infrastructure were functioning properly.
The mock drill will be held to ensure the operational readiness of the Covid-dedicated facilities, with a specific focus on oxygen plants, ventilators, logistics and human resources.
“We will check oxygen supplies, facilities, oxygen concentrators and plants, cylinders, ICU facilities, Covid-19 wards, testing facilities, drugs and other related facilities,” he said.
Health officials informed that oxygen plants in all district and sub-district hospitals would be again started to check whether these are in working mode or not.
“The concerned officials and officers have been asked to remain alert and continue the testing of suspected cases in all the hospitals,” they said.
As per official figures, the total number of active positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir have increased to 392 including 250 from Kashmir division and 141 from Jammu division.
Mock drill is a trial run conducted to check how health department and staff manages an emergency using available resources and hospital protocols to avert any chaotic situation.
Earlier, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had advised all the states and Union Territories to effectively implement a five-fold strategy of test, track, treat, follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour and vaccinate to check the spread.
The ministry has also asked the states to ensure the availability of required drugs and logistics for Influenza and Covid -19 across health facilities. Apart from this, states have been asked to ensure the availability of sufficient designated beds and health workers.
The Jammu and Kashmir Health Department, like other regions of the nation, will conduct a two-day Covid-19 simulated rehearsal in all hospitals for an emergency response beginning today (April 10) to verify medical equipment and other facilities were operating correctly.
On Tuesday, a countrywide Covid mock drill will be held throughout states and union territories.
