Baramulla, March 12: In a continuing effort to combat the drug trade in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police on Sunday arrested two individuals, including a notorious female drug peddler, and seized 70 grams of a substance similar to Charas.
A police official said that Haroon Rashid Bhat, son of Ab Rashid, and Naza Begum, wife of Ab Majeed Sofi, were apprehended by police under the supervision of Sh. Altaf Ahmad, Offg. SDPO Kreeri, and assisted by Inspr. Irfan Ahmad, SHO PS Chandoosa.
“Naza Begum, who is well-known for selling drugs to local youths, was among those arrested,” the police official said.
He said that upon conducting a personal search of the suspects, police discovered the contraband substance and immediately took them into custody.
“Cases have been registered under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chandoosa, and investigations are underway,” he added.
The locals have praised the efforts of the Baramulla Police in combating the drug trade and have shown a willingness to support the police in eradicating the menace of drugs from their society.
