The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) plans to brighten up the city with 650 hymast lights to be installed at different locations. The SMC has already installed hymast poles in various parts of the city, and officials say that the lights will be set up in the coming weeks. Tenders for the project will be floated this week, with work starting in the coming two weeks.
Ishtiyaq Ahmad, Joint Commissioner of the SMC, confirmed that they are ready to install 650 hymast lights in the city in the coming weeks. The hymast poles have already been erected in many locations, and the work will be executed in the coming months. These lights are mounted on a 40-foot-long pole and can cover vast areas, functioning just as well as dozens of street lights.
In the first phase, vital main roads will be covered, and gradually, other important main roads will be covered where these heavy lights will be set up for the department. These lights have a long shelf life and can work for decades.
The corporation has installed around 70,000 street lights in Srinagar so far, and another 51,000 will be installed in the city in the coming two months. According to the Joint Commissioner, in some places, people have genuine complaints about the non-availability of street lights, but he assured them that in the coming two months, not a single lane or byway will be left without the installation of street lights.
The SMC is taking every measure to provide better facilities to people in the city. The whole city will be illuminated in the coming months, and people won’t face any problems venturing out from their houses late at night or early in the morning. The officer added that they need people’s cooperation to make the city a model.
