JAMMU, June 02: A terrorist was killed on Friday in an encounter with security forces which broke out last night in the forests of Dassal Gujran near border district Rajouri of Jammu region.
The encounter between the security forces and the terrorists ensued after a joint operation was launched by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) last night in the forest area of Dassal Gujran, Lt Col Devender Anand said.
“During a joint operation by the Army and the JKP last night, the security forces noticed some suspicious movement in the forests of Dassal Gujran near Rajouri,” Lt Col Devender Anand said, adding, “On being challenged by our troops, they (terrorists) opened firing on the security forces”.
The Lt Col said, “Our forces retaliated and sporadic firing continued throughout the night”. A search operation was launched on Friday morning by a joint team of Army and the JKP, the defence spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the ADGP Mukesh Singh said that one terrorist was killed in an encounter. The operation has been called off, the PRO defence, Lt Col Devender Anand said.
Since the killings of innocent civilians in Dhangri area of Rajouri early this year and attack on Army vehicle in Bhatta Durriyan area of Poonch in which five Army jawans were martyred, there were reports that 10 -15 terrorists had been moving in the forests of Rajouri and Poonch.
“We are gathering details and analysing all this,” the PRO Defence told Rising Kashmir adding, “an FIR has also been lodged and there is every likelihood that this is the same terrorist group which killed the innocent civilians in Rajouri’s Dhangri area and also attacked the Army vehicle in which five jawans were martyred.”.
