Srinagar, August 8: Lake Conservation & Management Authority (LCMA) took a decisive step towards ensuring sustainable development and preservation of the Srinagar’s natural beauty by convening the 129th meeting of the Building Permission Authority (BPA) on Tuesday.
Chaired by Dr. Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Vice Chairman of J&K-LCMA, the meeting yielded significant outcomes in the realm of building operations and urban planning.
The J&K LCMA has been entrusted with extensive powers under the Control of Building Operations Act, 1988, via its subsidiary, the Building Permission Authority. The 129th meeting, held at the LCMA’s Head Office Complex in Miskeen Bagh, Khanyar, Srinagar, brought together key stakeholders including Secretary LCMA, Joint Commissioner (P) Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Executive Engineers from Lake Division 2nd LCMA and Electric Inspection Division, Chief Town Planner, Enforcement Officer LCMA, as well as representatives from the Tehsildar Khanyar and the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED).
The meeting, marked by in-depth discussions, deliberated on a comprehensive agenda aimed at enhancing the region’s building operations while maintaining ecological balance. A noteworthy achievement was the resolution of 93 cases by the BPA based on their individual merits. These decisions are expected to have far-reaching implications for the responsible development of infrastructure within the LCMA’s jurisdiction.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bashir Ahmad Bhat emphasized the LCMA’s commitment to orderly growth. He urged residents within the LCMA’s local jurisdiction to embrace the digital age by applying for building permissions online through the LCMA’s building permission authority. He sternly warned against unauthorized construction, highlighting that such actions would face legal consequences and the structures raised would be subject to demolition.
The LCMA’s efforts underscore its dedication to balancing progress with ecological conservation. As the region navigates the challenges of urban expansion, the 129th BPA meeting stands as a testament to the LCMA’s resolve to ensure sustainable development and protect the area’s unique natural treasures.
