Srinagar, July 26:
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and tri-service chiefs, visited the Kargil War Memorial on the occasion of the 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas to pay homage to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 India-Pakistan war.
Speaking at the memorial, the Defence minister reiterated India’s commitment to peace and adherence to international laws while asserting that the country will not hesitate to cross the Line of Control (LoC) when required to safeguard its interests.
Defence Minister Singh praised the valor of the security forces guarding India’s borders, stating that their dedication and vigilance deter any potential threats. He emphasized that India’s adherence to peace and commitment to international values do not signify weakness, and if the need arises, the country will not shy away from crossing the LoC.
“The Kargil war demonstrated India’s unwavering determination to protect its national interests at any cost. We can, and if necessary, we will cross the LoC in the future. I assure the nation of this,” said Defence Minister Singh.
He also called upon the public to be mentally prepared to support the armed forces directly on the battlefield if the situation demands. Citing the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, he highlighted the role of civilians’ direct involvement in supporting the forces during times of conflict.
Paying tributes to the fallen soldiers, Defence Minister acknowledged the immense support the Indian Armed Forces received from the public during wartime. He urged the citizens to stand united in their commitment to the nation’s defence, just as they did during the Kargil conflict.
Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates India’s victory over Pakistan in 1999 when the Indian Army launched a brave counterassault to evict Pakistani forces that had intruded into strategic heights in Ladakh.
In his tweet, Singh wrote, “Paid tributes to India’s Bravehearts at Kargil War Memorial in Dras. The Indian Armed Forces fought valiantly, and many soldiers laid down their lives in the line of duty. The nation will remain indebted to their service and sacrifice.”
Meanhwhile, President DraupadiMurmu and Prime Minister NarendraModi, paid their respects on Twitter and hailed the valor of the Indian armed forces, commemorating the victory achieved through extraordinary courage and sacrifices.
