Positive enrolment trends signal progress: Pradhan

Srinagar, June 8: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday reviewed the progress of school and higher education initiatives in J&K during a meeting with J&K Education Minister Sakina Itoo, with discussions focusing on strengthening teacher education, institutional development and skill enhancement.
The meeting examined issues concerning teacher education institutions and assessed the implementation of various educational programmes in the Union Territory. Both leaders also deliberated on measures aimed at improving the overall education ecosystem and creating better opportunities for students and youth.
Pradhan said the discussions covered teacher training, institutional capacity building and skilling initiatives that could further strengthen educational outcomes across J&K. He stressed the need for continued efforts to improve employability and equip young people with skills required in a changing job market.
“Held a productive discussion with Sakina Itoo, Minister for Education, Health & Medical Education and Social Welfare, Government of Jammu & Kashmir. Reviewed issues related to Teacher Education Institutions and the progress of school and higher education initiatives in Jammu & Kashmir. Discussed teacher training, institutional development, skilling and other measures to further strengthen the education ecosystem,” Pradhan said in a post on X.
The Union minister noted encouraging trends in student enrolment and educational performance in the region.
“Encouraging to note the positive trends in enrolment and educational outcomes. Through continued collaboration between the Central Government and the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, we remain committed to expanding access to quality education, enhancing employability and creating greater opportunities for the students and youth of Jammu & Kashmir,” he said.
Officials said the interaction reflected the Centre’s efforts on improving educational infrastructure, strengthening teacher preparation programmes and promoting skill based learning to meet future demands.
The meeting is expected to support ongoing efforts aimed at raising academic standards, improving institutional effectiveness and ensuring greater educational access across J&K.
