Srinagar, May 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Agriculture Production Department is working to frame and finalize the first Agriculture Export-Import Policy soon which will be beneficial for the farming community and a game-changer for the economy.
Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Agriculture Production Department, Atal Dulloo told Rising Kashmir said that the department is working to finalize the first Agriculture Export-Import Policy soon.
“Once the policy is finalized then we will make and work on different kinds of projects like apples and other crops. We will discuss the hindrances in the export of apples and it will help to increase the export of apples,” he said.
Dulloo said that the department will focus on different aspects like testing, branding, market intelligence, certification, processing in order to further push the export at the highest level.
He said the formation of the Export Promotion Policy is going to change the growth trajectory of the UT, besides transforming subsistence agriculture into a sustainable high-income vocation for the farming community and the youth as the future agripreneurs.
The Additional Chief Secretary has also put forth various suggestions for increasing the scale of production of new varieties having a competitive edge, quality certification of the products, track and traceability system, efficient logistics, processing, and proper packaging, branding and marketing so that J&K could emerge as a global export hub for its niche agri and allied products.
He said the agriculture and horticulture sector in Jammu & Kashmir are all set to experience significant growth in the coming years through the implementation of 29 interventions approved by the J&K Government.
“These interventions are expected to create around 19,000 new enterprises in the agriculture sector and generate an additional 2.8 lakh jobs, leading to an increase in the Agricultural GDP from Rs 37,559 crores to Rs 65,701 crores over the next five years,” he said.
