Jammu, May 12: Authorities in Jammu have installed high-definition cameras with an aim to better traffic movement, address congestion issues and to check violations on roads.
The 680 high-tech cameras under trail run will be installed in Jammu as part of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS).
Real time video footage and pictures would be available to the investigating agencies and the security forces whenever they require in case of unlawful activities and other offences.
“The main purpose of these high resolution cameras is to streamline traffic in Jammu and check violations on roads,” General Manager, Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), Ashish Anand informed Rising Kashmir, while adding, “However, the live footage and pictures provided by these cameras will also help in keeping a close watch on unlawful and criminal activities”.
The testing of the cameras is under process and it is being ascertained whether these cameras are providing information as is being required, the General Manager said, adding that all the cameras will be activated within a month after thorough testing.
These 680 high resolution cameras will keep round the clock watch in both Jammu City as also on the National Highway i.e within the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
The Government has identified 40 junctions across in Jammu where these high-tech cameras of different resolutions have been installed.
These cameras will also keep a close watch on the National Highway i.e from Kalu Chack to Nagrota, and right upto Muthi.
These cameras provide high resolution footage both during day and night capturing an area of 100 mtrs.
The cameras are of different categories but the Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras are the most high-tech.
All these high-tech cameras will have connectivity and will provide live videos and pictures to J&K Police headquarters at Gulshan Ground, Jammu, Traffic Control Room, Integrated Command Centre (ICC) at JMC and Police Control Room (PCR) Parade.
