Srinagar, Jun 06: Jammu and Kashmir has seen a massive boom in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector as the latest figures reveal that a whopping 8,19,257 Udyam registrations have been recorded across the region.

The massive 8.19 lakh listings, including Informal Micro Enterprises, have been registered on the Udyam Assist Platform (UAP), reflecting the growing formalisation of the Union Territory’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector.

According to a report compiled by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), accessed by Rising Kashmir, the registrations comprise 8,15,822 micro enterprises, 3,220 small enterprises and 215 medium enterprises.

The figures, as of January 31, 2026, underline the overwhelming dominance of the micro-enterprise segment in Jammu and Kashmir’s business landscape.

The latest statistics place Jammu and Kashmir among the regions witnessing significant participation in the government’s Udyam registration framework, which aims to bring enterprises into the formal economy and enable access to various benefits, including credit support, government procurement opportunities and MSME welfare schemes.

The data forms part of the Ministry’s state-wise distribution of Udyam registrations, including informal micro enterprises onboarded through the Udyam Assist Platform (UAP). The initiative has played a key role in extending formal recognition to small businesses and self-employed entrepreneurs operating in both urban and rural areas.

The registration numbers also indicate a steady expansion of entrepreneurial activity across Jammu and Kashmir, with micro enterprises accounting for more than 99 per cent of all registered units in the Union Territory.

The registration numbers assume significance in the context of the revised MSME classification announced in the Union Budget 2025–26, which substantially expanded investment and turnover thresholds.

Under the revised norms, micro enterprises can now invest up to Rs 2.5 crore with a turnover up to Rs 10 crore, small enterprises up to Rs 25 crore investment and Rs 100 crore turnover, and medium enterprises up to Rs 125 crore investment with a turnover up to Rs 500 crore.

Udyam Registration, launched by the MSME Ministry in July 2020, serves as the national portal for registering micro, small and medium enterprises, while the Udyam Assist Platform helps bring informal micro enterprises into the formal economic system.
