JAMMU, July 17: In a successful joint operation conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), a major infiltration bid was foiled in the Krishna Ghati Sector of Poonch district. Two terrorists were neutralized during the early morning operation, while another encounter broke out in the Surankote area later in the afternoon.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Army and the Special Operation Group (SOG) of JKP launched a Cordon and Search operation in the Sindarah and Maidan area of Surankote. The security forces engaged with three to four terrorists, leading to an intense gunfight.
The fresh contact with the terrorists occurred in the Sindarah and Maidan area near Surankote, prompting the initiation of a joint operation under Operation Trinetra. The Defence PRO, Suneel Bartwal, confirmed the sighting of three to four terrorists and the ongoing gunfight between the security forces and the militants.
Earlier in the morning, two terrorists were killed in a joint operation by the Army and JKP in the Krishna Ghati Sector of Poonch district. The terrorists were observed moving near the Poonch River from across the Line of Control (LoC), attempting to infiltrate into the Indian side.
Vigilant Indian troops swiftly cordoned off the area, preventing the terrorists from escaping. Contact was established between the security forces and the militants, leading to a heavy exchange of gunfire. One terrorist was neutralized on the spot, while another was seen falling into the Poonch River.
The Defence PRO confirmed the recovery of one terrorist’s body at the site, along with significant war-like stores. The seized items included an AK-74 rifle with a magazine, eleven rounds of ammunition, and other supplies for sustenance.
